AMIT HERI

Amit is Bangalore’s very own Jazz musician, and one of the few Indian musicians to perform at major international music festivals such as the Berlin Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Paris Jazz Festival, Rome World Music Festival, WOMAD Festival and many others.

Amit’s introduction to Jazz through the music of John Mclaughlin, George Benson, Miles Davis & John Coltrane, led him to study Jazz and Composition on a scholarship at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

He has recently been in the limelight with the launch of his latest world music album “Jhoola”.

DEREK JULIEN

Popularly known in music circles as India’s finest and perhaps most underrated guitarist ever, Derek started the world's first world music progressive rock band ‘Waterfront’ along with Trilok Gurtu and Roger Dragonnette. The band acquired a cult following in the 70’s and received rave reviews on their tour of Europe in 1971.

A professional guitarist since ’67, Derek has performed across music genres, from rock, jazz, and blues to fusion and pop. He is known for his rich tonal quality, defined sound and style, which is flamboyant yet serious concerto. His knowledge of sound engineering is extensive. Step aside Pat Metheny.

TUKI

Vikramjit 'Tuki' Banerjee can play on any stage, anywhere in the world. Proof of this lies in the fact that his track SPACE GUITAR was one of the ten tracks selected worldwide to feature in the album TRIBUTE TO ERIC JOHNSON.

Tuki has been spearheading Kolkata's extremely popular ‘Krosswindz’ for the last 18 years. The band has toured the world delighting audiences with their unique brand of fusion rock - a mix of Baul and Rock.

Tuki and his band has represented India in several world music fests, and has collaborated with internationally reputed names like Herbie Hancock, Sky High (Sweden), Rag Foundation (England Wales), Tizian Jost (Germany) Pandit Ramesh Mishra ( Indian Sarengi Player), Sanjay Mishra (Classical Guitarist USA) and The Jazz Ambasadors USA among others.

JOHN ANTHONY

This Kochi-bred musician, who has jammed with some heavyweights such as Sivamani and A. R. Rahman, has recently completed what he calls a `dream project' - A classical contemporary band called `kARNATRiix' and a new album named `Namaste'.

kARNATRiix’s music has elements of jazz, blues, rock, trance, funk, and classical. All in perfect harmony with the Carnatic Kritis of Saint Thyagaraja.

Its soundscape stretches far beyond what has been created so far. It is contemporary yet traditional, simple yet not too simple, electronic and acoustic. In short, something new for you to discover.

What exactly is Guitar Gurus?

Guitar Gurus, which we hope to make an annual affair, is a rare congregation of some of India’s finest guitar players, each a master in the art of wielding an axe.

What’s the program?

The evening will begin at eight sharp (we’re serious). Each artist will occupy the stage for approximately one hour. The show will end with a mother of a jam involving all artists. Somewhere in the middle of all this, one lucky devil in the audience will win an accoustic guitar signed by all artists!
